Russian Scrap Metal CEOs See Advanced Recycling Technology Firsthand

On September 13, Gershow Recycling hosted 14 owners and CEOs of scrap metal companies from Russia for a tour of its Medford facility. The group recently came to the United States to visit numerous scrap metal recycling companies across the country, including Gershow.

Gershow is highly recognized for having one of the most technologically advanced scrap metal processing facilities in the world. Its technology allows the company to minimize metal waste entering landfills, helping to protect the local environment.

“This is one of the best tours I have taken,” said Victor Kovshevny, Director, Ruslom, who helped organize the visit. “Gershow should be proud of the work they do. We are very grateful to the company for showing us their facility and for hosting us.”

The Patchogue Lions Club held its nineteenth annual “Christmas in June” event on Tuesday, June 25 at Boomer’s Family Fun Center in Medford. For the fourteenth consecutive year, as part of its ongoing community service, Gershow Recycling sponsored the event by donating $1,500.

Approximately 150 school children from seven elementary schools in the Patchogue-Medford School District were chosen to participate in this year’s event by their respective principals. Since the Patchogue Lions Club has started “Christmas in June,” more than 2,000 children have participated in this fun-filled event.

“This was a nice way to give these children an opportunity to have some fun and spend the day with their friends,” said Lou Giordano, President, Patchogue Lions Club. “It gave the children a place to enjoy themselves, especially with the school year drawing to a close.”

Children were treated to lunch and then given full access for several hours to attractions, including rides, go-carts, wall climbing, bumper boats, and arcade games.

“We were very happy in joining with the Patchogue Lions Club to make this day possible for these children,” said Jonathan Abrams, Manager, Gershow Recycling. “They always have a great time here. With the summer season beginning, the timing couldn’t be better.”

Started in 1964 by Sam Gershowitz, Gershow Recycling began as a two man operation with a tractor and trailer, a boom truck and the first portable car flattener. Now with the second generation carrying on the legacy, Gershow generates over 750 jobs, contributing millions of dollars to the local economy, while helping to preserve Long Island’s environment. Gershow Recycling takes aluminum, brass, copper, steel, cast iron, appliances, cars and vehicles. In keeping with its philosophy of “Conserving the Future by Recycling the Past,” Gershow Recycling purchases scrap metal that would have otherwise wound up in local landfills, and turns them into high-quality scrap products for recycling. The company produces both ferrous and non-ferrous products. Gershow has nine locations in Brooklyn, New Hyde Park, Valley Stream, Freeport, Lindenhurst, Huntington Station, Bay Shore, Medford and Riverhead.
